As a wedding photographer, especially in Lake County Florida where the weather can change on a dime, you really need a good back up plan. This past weekend I had the privilege of shooting a wedding for a lovely couple just outside of Leesburg. The plan was to have the wedding outside, down by the lake, surrounded by old growth cypress and live oak trees. This was no small wedding, 200 plus people attending meant you had to have plan b in case the weather didn’t hold up. Well the rains came in a big way the night before which turned the area that was originally planned to have wedding, into a big soggy mess. So as planned the wedding was moved to the huge tent where the reception was to take place. I arrived about an hour earlier than we had discussed because I knew this was going to be challenging day. Little did I know that I would wind up helping to decorate the arch way with the flowers and Spanish moss. As a photographer, sometimes that means that you help out where you are needed.
The wedding went off without an issue and we captured some amazing shots. One in particular was when the bride and the bridal party were getting ready, I snapped a shot of the bride looking into a turn of century antique mirror with an early Tiffany lamp in the background. It’s candid moments like that you really appreciate the art of wedding photography.
I am booking more and more weddings lately but the one constant as in all my projects is being prepared. You have to be ready for anything and anticipate the unexpected. There are a lot of what if’s in my planning because a wedding is one of those events that you cannot get a do over. You have one shot to get it right. My philosophy is to get the shot and ask for forgiveness later.
Here are a few images from the wedding:
